What is YTV?
YTV is a stream of the studio in realtime. In basic terms, it’s like listening to YFM – with a visual element.
It’s based on an experimental low-cost video broadcasting service, that is born out of South Africa. The aim of this service is to provide a world-class multimedia service for the difficult digital environment in Africa i.e. low bandwidth speeds, expensive data packages, and internet access predominantly via mobile devices.
What we need from you is to test it out and give us your feedback.
What does it mean when it says “Your browser requires an additional plugin”?
The web browser you are currently using is not Internet Explorer which makes use of built in features. The text to which you are referring is a link to an additional piece of software that is easy to install and will allow you to view the stream.
Why is the video hazy, I want HD!
The video quality adjusts to your current bandwidth to ensure you get Live video. So if your internet connectivity drops the quality of the video drops, but you never lose connection to the video stream and never have to wait for it to buffer.
I’m on a Mac and can’t see the stream
This service is currently only available for Windows users. Please ensure you are running Microsoft Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7.
Which browsers can I use?
• Internet Explorer 7
• Internet Explorer 8
• Internet Explorer 9
• Firefox 3.6
• Firefox 4
• Google Chrome
• Safari 4
If you are not using Internet Explorer, please install the additional plugin.
Why do I see a black screen, even though I’ve installed the plugin?
Make sure that you have restarted your browser after installing the plugin. If you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, make sure you have installed both plugins available.
Go to control panel and uninstall both plugins (RTVC WMP Plugin and Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin). Restart your computer, navigate back to the YFM site and try again.
Why are there adverts in the video?
The adverts are there so we are able to offer the stream to the public for free.
The video appears to be paused, but the player shows it as playing
Try refreshing the page.
The time elapsed seems to be increasing very rapidly.
This has no effect on the video, you can ignore it.
