Over the past eight years,
the Rotary Clubs of Morningside
and Benoni Aurora have organised
a Charity Walk at the
Modderfontein Nature Reserve.
This year the walk will be held
on Sunday, September 5th
and will again be held
at the Nature Reserve.
Visit the Club’s website at
www.rotarymorningside.org

How can you help?
The Charity Walk can only be made possible by the partnership of business
and community. There are three ways in which the public can help:
1. Assist by providing any form of sponsorship for the event (no amount is too small)
2. Help us publicise the event in your own organisation
3. Enter the Walk! Invite your family, friends and colleagues. It makes for a great
company team-building event with three different distances:
5 kilometres for those who enjoy a pleasant Sunday walk, perhaps with their dog
10 kilometres for the family
15 kilometres for those who enjoy a little competition (walk or run)

All funds raised will be used to directly benefit the charities involved. The Club finances specific projects and oversees their completion as well as the use of the monies raised. Administration costs for projects are covered by the Rotary Clubs and separate sponsorships.

- refurbish a home for abandoned children in Yeoville;
- contribute towards building a Family Counselling Centre at Diepsloot.

2010/2011 PROJECT – SANDTON CRISIS COUNSELLING CENTRE
The funds raised from this year’s Charity Walk will be used for the Sandton Crisis Counselling Centre, a facility that will be built by the Rotary Club of Morningside, in partnership with Sandton Victim Support, the community, the Sandton SAPS and corporate sponsorship. The Club has already received approval in principle to build the centre on the corner of Rivonia and Summit Roads in Morningside, and it is intended that the facility will service, but not be limited to, Sandton, Douglasdale, Alexandra, Rosebank, Bramley, Parkview, Midrand and Randburg.
The Sandton Crisis Counselling Centre will provide a comprehensive care centre for rape survivors and victims of other crimes that necessitate counselling, the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, the careful gathering of forensic evidence, legal advice, the reduction of violence against women through research, lobbying, advocacy and education, and an increase in public awareness and empowerment of survivors of violence through the process of psychological, legal and emotional support and the provision of counselling support to emergency services personnel.
For more information on the Sandton Crisis Counselling Centre, please contact the founder of the Sandton Crisis Counselling Centre, Rotarian Elaine Bowen, at elaine.business@vodamail.co.za. A full sponsorship pack with information such as costings, furniture/furnishings and medical requirements, and statistical information, is available on request.
