28 accused have been convicted in Mzansi’s World Cup Courts since they opened on the 28th of May.
One of the latest convictions was a 26 year old man who was sentenced to 20 months behind bars – after he tried to steal a duvet cover from a tourist bus.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga reportedly told the South African Press Agency that 76 cases have been filed in the courts so far – of which 30 cases were finalised.
Mhaga added that a number of cases have been withdrawn due to lack of evidence – and told YFM News that the courts have been a success.
Meanwhile
The two Dutch women – accused of ambush marketing – will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court this morning.
The ladies were arrested after wearing branded dresses -made by beer maker Bavaria - to a game between the Netherlands and Denmark at Soccer City stadium last week – and were granted R10 000 bail each.
Bavaria is not an official 2010 Fifa World Cup sponsor .
Police spokesperson – Vishnu Naidoo - says their passports have also been confiscated.
