Admiral & JahSeed have been dj’ing together since 1997. They play dancehall reggae music aka ragga. Admiral dj’s the tunes (Selector) and JahSeed chants lyrics on the mic (MC). Admiral grew up with his family exiled in London and got involved with reggae music through the Jamaican community. JahSeed got involved with reggae growing up in the Zimbabwean club scene. The two met on Admiral’s reggae show at the Voice Of Soweto radio station in 1996. At that time JahSeed was known in SA as ‘Appleseed’. Over the years many local and international artists have performed live on the African Storm sound system including: Sizzla Kalonji, Queen Ifrica, Etana, Tony Rebel, Fantan Mojah, Brenda Fassie, Thandiswa, Ishmael, Bricks, Mapaputsi, Boomshaka, Cypress Hill and Wyclef Jean. They have also supported many live shows including reggae greats like: Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Chaka Demus & the Pliers. Admiral & JahSeed have co-hosted their weekly show Raggatak on YFM since 1999. Admiral has released 2 solo albums fusing Ragga with Kwaito music. He is also a well known TV film critic and Filmmaker. JahSeed is one of the three iconic members of the multi-platinum selling Afro-Pop group Bongomaffin. He recently released his first solo project ‘No Retreat No Surrender’ which won the first ever SAMA award for Best Reggae Album in 2011. Catch Raggatak every Wendnesday 10pm-12am on YFM.
