Clive Tshabalala otherwise known as Dj C-live was born in Durban North Coast, May 1981. After moving to the city of Gold in 1991, Johannesburg became his adopted home. “I started seeing and hearing about the hip hop culture in high school, but I really “listened” in grade 10, I remember the day and the feeling vividly; when hip hop made sense to me…it was beautiful!”. C-live matriculated at Athlone Boys High School on the east side of Johannesburg in 1999.
C-lives’ interest for deejaying was realized during his high school years by chance, being a B-Boy (break-dancer) at the time he would play music for the dance
sessions before the resident deejays arrived at the
Saturday
matinee called Le Club in “98”. Playing music
for the dancers
was soon changed to playing the
opening
sets “because the
Deejays would arrive late,
and before I realized it I
was
buying my first record!”
Through watching other deejays like
Blaze,
Bionic, Bigga
and Ready D rock the crowds he learnt
many
valuable
lessons.
He established a close relationship with the clubs
resident
deejays;
Bionic and Blaze. C-live had excelled
and proven
himself as a good
B-boy, he went on to
establish Joburg’s
first B-Boy group: Static
B-boys
(they can be seen on a
television show called Big-Yo
on
Saturdays on SABC 1).
C-live has since left the
dance group to
concentrate on his
music. DJ C-live
has been featured in many
magazines,
newspapers,
websites, television and radio shows i.e.
O-Boma on
Channel O and Go-Zone on D.S.T.V. He has also
made
appearances on songs either as cameo or laid scratch
effects on them,
namely: Optical Illusion,
Amu-Attention,
and Fortune-Abom’Rapper.
He has also made numerous stand-in appearances
on the
Phat Joe
show, besides having spun at
almost every hot
venue and most events
in
Gauteng and the major cities; he is currently a
resident deejay at
Naked Nights in Braamfontein every Thursday and lso at the
prestigious Hennessy Nights at Fashion T.V. Café in the Michelangelo
Towers in Sandtion. Other than club events in and around
Johannesburg, he is no stranger to corporate events; he recently
deejayed at the Edgars Music Series amongst others.
