Do you dream of a career on air at Y?

From the time we took over the airwaves in 1997, GP’s Hottest Frequency has made dreams come true for some of the greatest stars in radio. And now, we’ve taken that to the next level. From June through November, 12 fortunate recruits will have the opportunity to learn everything there is to learn about how to make their own talent come alive on air.

The Y Academy is here!

The Y Academy is the most ambitious training and development programme ever put together by any media house, here or anywhere. It’s an intensive six-month programme that will drop new recruits into the heart of our operation. They will learn how to produce, how to conduct an interview, how to write a news bulletin, how to feed music into our digital library and how to catalogue that music, how to produce promotional clips, how to market events, how to sell advertisements, how to know what is and is not allowed on air, and finally, to get behind the mike and show us what they are made of.

1. Are you a South African citizen, young, vibrant, spunky, proactive, presentable, and be able to work under pressure?
2. Do you sound good?
3. Do you have a degree or a diploma from a university or technikon?
4. Do you speak very good English as well as being fluent in at least one vernacular language – preferably isiZulu or Sesotho?
5. Do you love and understand music, especially Y’s music?
6. Are you prepared to put in many long hours learning from the brightest talents in radio with enthusiasm and determination starting August 2009 for six months without dropping out?

If you answered “yes” to all of those questions, you’re halfway there already. Stay tuned to 99.2 Yfm, read Y Mag, and keep surfing yworld.co.za for details of the next intake; coming soon!

Successful applicants will be announced on air and on www.yworld.co.za. Successful applicants will be expected to sign contracts binding them to Yfm workplace rules, the Yfm disciplinary code, and the Broadcasting Code of Conduct. Successful applicants will receive a small stipend to supplement their travel and accommodation. The Y Academy is a learnership programme, not an offer of employment. Successful completion of the Y Academy programme does not guarantee employment at Yfm.
