  • Nzimande in charge of skills development
    Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande is now responsible for the entire skills development and training sector in government. The transfer of the skills development powers has been moved from the Department of Labour in line with Cabinet's decision to create an integrated system of education and training. Nzimande spokesperson Ranjeni Munusamy says he will address a media conference on the implications of the transfer along with the steps to be taken on the second national skills development strategy and the Sector Education and Training Authorities.

  • SABC progress report
    The SABC interim board has saved the corporation R65 million since its stepped in to resolve the financial and management crisis and interim chairperson Irene Charnley says the broadcaster will start making a profit in 2012. Presenting the progress reports to Parliaments Communications Portfolio Committee, Charnley also said all debts will be repaid by the end of the 2014 financial year, adding the R200 million it received from the Treasury will pay for commissioned local content . Charnley says the board is also framing a final list of criminal charges against two former staff members accused of irregular spending identified in the Auditor General report.

  • Disability conference
    Noluthando Mayende Sibiya, minister for women, children and persons with disabilities says transport is one of key issues to be discussed at the disability conference next month. The minister says transport modes should accomodate people in wheel chairs,such as the new BRT system in Johannebsurg which is one of the very few systems that can accomodate wheelchairs. Meanwhile 36 year old paraplygic, Emily Oliphant says its not easing adjusting to her new life, she lost movement in her legs after an accident.


  • Sony Pictures is reportedly planning to film a third installment of the MEN IN BLACK film franchise. The first film was released in 1997 and Will Smith is expected to reprise his role which catapulted him into acting super stardom . Men In Black is based on a comic book and Smith said after the first film he became a big comic book fan.

  • NYDA buy youth campaign
    Young Entrepreneurs will be educated in how to start a business - in the third and final day of the National Youth Development Agency's Buy Youth Campaign. The initiative encourages big business to buy goods and services from youth owned enterprises and adopt an SME, allowing the big business to score B-BBEE points in Enterprise Development. 50 established SME's in the ICT, Construction and other industries have been trained Supplier Development since the campaign began Monday.
