JEALOUS DOWN – TEARGAS

Off their “Dark Or Blue” album, the multi-award-winning group have dropped this track for our listening pleasure. The trio are one of SA’s top performing acts, who seem to be producing music at a very high standard. And consistently. They have currently released to us a mixtape. One of the tracks “Warfare” can currently be heard on the playlist. Also, look out for the release of their “Dark Or Blue” DVD coming soon. Certainly proud of these lads!

IN HER EYES – DJ KENT ft. JUSTIN

The 3rd track that YFM has taken off Mr. Mabaso's "I Can't Survive" album. Amongst the title track, and "Fall In Love Again," lay this little gem. So often we as people make the mistake of skipping to the tracks that are most publicised. And when this happens, we miss the opening track. But, not us. This is, in my opinion, the best track on the album. This is where Kent leaves every other South African DJ trailing kilometres behind. With the smooth backtrack, and the undeniably sultry vocals of Justin Chalice, I even managed to convert my rocker peeps into grooving to sounds of house music.

SUPER HERO – MIZA FT. FLABB

He burst onto the scene with the production on the hit track “Nka Mo Dira” by Nutty Nys. Now he’s got Flabba on a similar type of track. We reckon that this will be on some high-level party grooves this spring. And the best part is that it’s humourous. And who doesn’t like a funny track. Chatting to him, he quoted, “Ke man of the match, Super Hero.”

GANGSTA – SPIKIRI

It has been a while since “Maw’dakiwe Udakiwe” was on rotation. But the funny man is back again with this hot track. Laid back, fresh, and just plain rad. It’s off his “Taking A Walk On The Wild Side.” There’s something very special about Mandla Spikiri’s music. It’s almost like you just know that he is a super cool guy just from listening to his music. It’s a new entry on the chart, and I won’t be surprised to see this track make its way to number 1 in the coming weeks

THE MOMENT – RJ BENJAMIN

"House Bound's" success has finally seen the album being retailed at music stores countrywide. The album is sponsored by a tobacco company, surprisingly. But this is the 4th single that has hit the playlist. At this point, you can pick up a signed copy of the album . Details on Facebook or @SarahBenjamin on Twitter. It's a brilliant album. This single may not be as hot as "Good Times" but that doesn't mean it's not on fire. RJ is the man.

FALL IN LOVE AGAIN – DJ KENT ft. RELO

The little maestro continues his excellent form. This is the second single off his album “I Can’t Survive.” Scrolling through his fan posts, I came across the perfect one. Says Sivatho Nicholas, “Kent, I once heard that there will be a DJ that will revolutionise house music. I personally think that you have proved yourself to be THAT DJ. Your album is off the hinges, and yeah, loving the cover.” Do I need say anymore? I think not.

MSINDO – MAVURA

Another Durban kwaito artist doing his thing, and doing it well. I say this because a lot of the Durban kwaito artists have this stereotype of producing similar-sounding music. But Mavura is not falling into that category. This is kwaito of old, and one to jam along to. He's no stranger to the scene. He has performed alongside artists such as Thembi Seete, GumShev, Chomee, Jub Jub, DJ Fresh, Dj Christos, and many others

LIQUIDEEP – SOMETHING ABOUT YOU

Ryzor & Ziyon collectively are, Liquideep. They are definitely living a fairytale with a couple of hits off their debut album "Fabrics Of The Heart." "Something About You” is their current hot single and is guaranteed to devoid them of any “one-hit-wonder” status in the local industry. It’s a track that is going to explode just as much as Fairytale did. Suit up, because these guys roll with class

DJ FRESH ft. RJ BENJAMIN – ALRIGHT

Taken off the Fe.U album Vol. 1, the two conquerors of the SA scene have combined their powers (DJ Freshamin) to challenge the forces that be. At this point, there is no greater duo. The sultry sounds of RJ and the undeniable skill of the “Big Dawg” has produced a perfectly-balanced chart-topping hit. Chatting to RJ, he quoted, “I always knew the song had potential.” Yes, I am a huge fan. Yes, I have huge respect. And yes, YFM has big love for them too.

LOVE YOU BETTER – CRAZY WHITE BOY ft. RUEGROOVE

Trying to describe this song, whilst avoiding being clichéd, was rather difficult. So I decided to take a quote off the Interweb by Wayne V, to avoid being boring. And after all, It’s nice to hear the view of the public ahead of music critics. So here it is: “Absolutely awesome song. Real old school House feel with a new tempo. Like they always say, “Less is more.” Awesome track, and also one of my favourites of 2010. Can also be heard of the “Fe.U Vol.1” album

ASTON MARTIN MUSIC –RICK ROSS ft. DRAKE & CHRISETTE MICHELLE

So, “Teflon Don” was released, and has it made an impact on the music scene. Suddenly the name Rick Ross is all you hear. And not to mention the fact that he has teamed up with another spot-lighter, Aubrey “Drake” Graham. It’s rumoured that the Gotti family is unhappy with Ross’ stage persona and album title, as it was the name given to mobster John Gotti. No matter what people say, this album is going to be larger than life. Larger, in fact, than Ross himself. And if you ask me, that’s pretty large.

BUM BUM – ZAKES BANTWINI ft. TUMELO

So, this is the track that is making all the honeys shake their booty-tangs! Oh yes, Durban lad Zakes has laid down a summer anthem right here. Working with the likes of Black Coffee, I’m not surprised that he’s dropped such a hot track. Teaming up with YFM’s Tumelo, this is apparently only the first of many hot tracks to come. We sure hope so. Because with summer just around the corner, I want to see some shakin’.

FALL IN LOVE IN AGAIN – DJ KENT ft.

Your album is off the hinges, and yeah, loving the cover.” Do I need say any more? I think not.

LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE – EMINEM ft. RIHANNA

This is a combination that I least expected. And at first , I was very sceptical. May I add that there is no better feeling than being proven wrong about a particular artist or song, for that matter. This is one of the hottest, most passionate tracks to be released in 2010, thus far. The day we received the “Recovery” album, I went to bed, with the song on repeat. I fell asleep to it, and woke up to it. If anything, it just sounds better every time. Eminem is the Einstein of hip-to-the-hop. And if you haven’t had a chance to check out the video as yet, go check it out. It’s clocked up 76 million hits in a month.

    THE FIRE – THE ROOTS

One of four tracks by The Roots that are currently circulating on the playlist. This is the follow-up to the previous single, titled “The Day.” If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to appreciate the brilliance of their album “How I Got Over,” change your life and get your pinkies on it! It is their 9th studio album, and 11th overall album, including live DVDs. All this in their 23 year span. “The Fire” is definitely a lot more up-tempo in comparison to “The Day.” If you’re a long-standing fan, like myself, you’ll be more than satisfied

    GOOD TIMES – RJ BENJAMIN

Another feature for the “man with a plan” himself. Follow-up from “Into The Stars” and “Alright,” this is one of, if not my favourite, tracks off his album “House Bound.” And man, has this album come home! I’m actually running out of words to describe the talent of RJ. Hot tune, amazing album, and humble as hell! Says RJ: “I’ve always tried to build a reputation of respect and credibility, as opposed to overnight fame.” For me, it’s a 3/3 and well, it doesn’t get any better than that.

I WANNA ROCK RIGHT NOW – CHRIS BROWN ft. PURPLE REIGN & JAY-Z

At last Chris Brown isn’t crying, or shouting, or throwing his anger around. He’s all about rocking out! And that’s what we, as music compilers, love. He teams up with Purple Reign and Mr. Carter himself. This 21 year old has his eyes on the prize. He must just keep his hands to himself and not use humans as punching bags, no matter how stressful the life of a celebrity may be

IT AIN’T NOTHIN’ – CYPRESS HILL

Californian-based, latino hip-hop group Cypress Hill were initially called DVX. It seems so long ago that they brought s the cult classic “Insane In The Membrane.” It’s been six years since their last album, but “Rise Up” is far from a disappointment. This is the second release since “Armada Latina.” The album features incredible artists, such as, Mike Shinoda and Tom Morello. This track rocks hard, and has earned a rightful position in the top 10.

    BASHANYANA – MONO T

Courtesy of Kalawa Jazmee Records, this is a new addition to the list of featured artists on the YFM Urban Top 40. And it’s an awesome addition, at that. This track has a cultural vibe to it. When I hear it, I want to get on my feet and shake it. And a definite head-bobbler tune too. And he’s no stranger either. During his time with Phezulu Records he was nominated for a SAMA

DJ’S GOT US FALLING IN LOVE – USHER ft> PITBULL

This is a prime example of one of those fifty-fifty x 100% songs. You either hate it, or love it. That makes up the fifty-fifty part. The 100% part comes in because no matter how much you love or hate it, it gets stuck in your head, 100%. It's a crowd-pleaser, and it makes sense. Because DJ's make people fall in love. Think about it. How many people do you know of that have fallen in love in a club? Well, even if it was just for one night. Or a one night stand. The DJ had them falling in love, or had them making love. Whichever one is applicable to you Hot tune for the summer madness.
