Rapper Gucci Mane – has been committed to a mental institution in his home town Atlanta .

The sentence was recommended by a Fulton County Judge – following the rapper violating the terms of his probation.

Mane has been on the wrong side of the law for numerous accounts like in 2005  over a murder charge which was later dismissed and also a botched robbery involving men affiliated with Young Jeezy’s CTE Entertainment.

The South African Police Service and members of the Hawks have closed down a drug manufaturing laboratory in Soweto.

In a pre dawn raid the Hawks with members of the SAPS stormed the Chiawelo house – discovering chemicals and manufacturing equipment valued at R500 thousand. Amoung the chemicals 30 mandrax tablets were seized along with 20kgs of methacolone.

No people were present in the house at the time of the raid however the SAPS say investigations are underway for potential suspects.

The Department of Basic Education has emphasised - schools across mzansi will be fully operational from the first day of the 2011 school calendar.

The Education department says delivery of work material – such as text books and other stationary - began during the december period - and is confident that most schools will be equipt for the 2011 Curriculum.

Over one million pupils are set to start primary education this month - with more expected  – as late enrolements are still yet to be accomodated.

Department Spokesperson Granville Whittle says the new numeracy and literacy work books for grade 1 to 6  will be available at all schools.

The City of Joburg has unleashed – its 7th annual Carnival today on New years Eve With this years theme being – Jozi my Jozi.

The carnival will kick off at noon and will end at 7 o clock this evening.

For the first time in its 7 year running – the carnival will not hold a final jamboree at the Mary Fits Gerald square because construction that is still under way.

The City’s Spokesperson – Jabu Nkosi told YFM News all 7 regions in the city will braise the carnival with thier own themes

The Competition Commission board has cleared Mzansi’s supermarket sector of price fixing and collusion.

The Business Day reports the commission has been meeting with supermarkets to tell them about the outcome of the probe before making it public – of which Pick n Pay has welcomed.

This comes 18 months after the board began its inquiry into the sector - after it was alledged to be driving up the price of food through collusion and price fixing – food items effected included basic food groups such as bread and milk.

The Department of Home Affairs has recieved more than 200 000 applications from Zimbabwean since cabinet approved a window period for illegal Zim Nationals to apply for legal permits.

The department says it has only approved 38 000 of the 44 000 aplications that have been processed so far.

Today marks the last day for Zimbabweans in South Africa to apply for legal permits or they will have to face deportation.

Department Spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa says the Director Generals will be present at departments across the country where they will also assist with the regularisations.

South African - Brandon Huntley - will appeal against the Canadian Government’s decision to revoke his refugee status.

Hunlty was granted refugee status earlier this year by a Canadian court – after claiming – as a white South African – he was targeted by black people.

Canadian immigration authorities were pressured by Mzantsi government to reverse their decision citing -  the ruling was considered to be racist.

Huntley’s lawyer - Advocate Russell Kaplan – says his client’s case depends on whether a new judge would be afraid to be called a racist when upholding Huntley’s second application.

Kabelo Thibedi – who held up home affairs for over six hours – has established an organization to aid people applying for identity documents.

The young Sowetan was sentenced to a five year suspended sentence after the hostage drama in 2005 – in which he held up home affairs with a toy gun.

Thibedi says the organisation aims at bringing the community and the home affairs department closer - adding the trauma he went through is something no one should have to experience.

Eight family members accused of sexually abusing their children - grandchildren and foster children - will spend Christmas behind bars.

The Pretoria North Magistrates Court yesterday heard harrowing tales by two of the four children - alledged to have been victims of sexual assult at the hands of family members. The pair revealed that a further two children may have been victims of sexaul assualt.

Magistrate Pierre Wessels postponed the case to Wednesday - allowing defence lawyers an opportunity to deliver their final arguments.

The two police officers who were shot down in Meadowlands – Soweto – on Sunday night – will be laid to rest today.

The officers were ambushed inside the Mzimhlophe hostel – while doing routine patrols in a marked van when they where gunned down.

Police also combed the hostel hoping to catch the gunmen and found several unlicensed firearms and made a few arrests

Police are still on the hunt for the killers.

Police spokesperson Lindiwe Mbatha told YFM News the officers will be buried in Venda.
