Music
The role of the music team is to connect intimately with the Yires through our carefully selected music. The music team chooses music which fits in with YFM’s DNA, and proudly introduces new music and breaks local tracks first! We give local music a platform, as we do for unknown SA artists. We’ve defined ourselves as THE “new music station” and our core genres are house, hip-hop, kwaito and R&B, but this doesn’t mean we neglect other genres! International and local pop and alternative music are explored on our Hot 99 Breaking and Entering Charts, as well as on Live and Rewired.
When it comes to music, we live by one credo;
“If it’s hot, then we’ll play it!”
Programming
Our Programming Department manages all content that goes on air, from DJs to producers. As effortless as the conversations that go out on air sound, there is a dedicated team of professional who makes sure that we talk about is relevant to you as the listener, while still keeping it entertaining and fresh! Young people have many different facets to them, and our programming caters to them all!

Marketing
YFM’s Marketing Team are the custodians of the YFM brand, ensuring that all messages disseminated about us are in line with the station’s core identity and DNA. They are responsible for maintaining YFM’s brand identity, and for ensuring the position we have in radio listeners’ hearts and ears-number ONE! They keep the YFM brand true to what the youth loves, and are known for throwing the best events in GP!

Digital
Our Digital team is concerned with all the things we do in the online space, from Yworld and all its different aspects, YTV our online TV channel and our social networking platforms. We speak to the YFM massive that is engaged in the digital space, which obviously refers to most young people in urban areas. This is the space where we make direct contact with the Yires, and where we stimulate conversation with GP’s youth!

Technical
Our technical team makes it possible for you to listen to YFM, whether you
do it online or through our frequency in Gauteng, 99.2. They are also the
backbone that keeps the operation going in the YFM offices, no technical support
means you can’t be sure whether or not you’ll find us on our frequency!
They are on the cutting edge of all sorts of new technology that others haven’t necessarily
caught up to yet. Their experimental nature has resulted in them being able to assemble an
outside broadcast in less than an hour instead of the usual 2 weeks, and their satellite
capabilities mean YFM can broadcast from virtually anywhere-signal or not!

News
As you’ve heard them say, the YFM news team delivers the news you need to know, when you need to know it! We try to ensure that the news we cover is relevant to our audiences, and easy to understand. Us relating international currencies to our audiences in terms of burger prices is no mistake at all, we just understand that information delivered the way YOU would like to hear it is easier to ingest! We even keep up to date with current social media trends and take social media trends seriously; After all, it’s where most of our audiences live!

YLab
This is the kitchen where we cook up the sound of YFM. It consists of our talented technical production team which works hand in hand with the copywriting department to produce the award-winning advertisements that we are well known for! An advertisement lives its entire life cycle in YLab, from conception to making its way onto your radio. They also provide on-air support to our DJs and every promo, sound clip and sound effect you hear comes from this mad bunch of chefs!

Traffic
“Traffic” is the department responsible for coordinating the flow of commercials through the on-air chain. They ensure that commercials are properly sequenced, that the correct material is broadcast according to the clients’ requirements, and that correct advertisements are flighted in the allotted time slots.

Money makes the world go round…and the sales team makes YFM go round! Commercial success is the cornerstone of any business, and the sales team works with the best clients, the trendiest products, and the most-attention grabbing campaigns to ensure that YFM continues to be a money-spinner. The funds they generate also contribute to the running of the company, and all the perks that the YFM staff has become accustomed to. In a nutshell, they are the sweat and the machine that keeps the station profitable.

Copywriting
Copywriting’s love for words translates into YFM’s language, a language that only the young can understand! Copywriting puts together the voice of the station, the sound of the station and they broadcast the message of the station. Anything from station liners, promos and adverts flows from their pens and straight to our hearts!
